beach nights.

It's been a while since I've visited the beaches of Lake Ontario.  A couple of us ventured out last week in the biting cold January weather.  I think its safe to say I've lost feeling in three toes. Oh how I long to ride my bike in the summer sun.

Good music, good kids, good times.

A twist.

morning sketch

Oh, the crazy things love makes you do.

My very first painting.

I was just a baby then, 14 years young.

dead deer.

Fini!  A three paneled painting, using acrylic and wool string.  Jonas Bonnetta played at Isabella's Chocolate Cafe a couple weeks ago and it was magical.  He even made a tribute to the talented late Glen Bensley, who is still sorely missed by everyone who was in attendance.  The night was a huge inspiration.

Regin-ah, Regin-ah, Regin-a-ah.

I used to be obsessed.

Brrrrr.

I love the contour of the human body.  The more curves, the more interesting.  However, I wouldn't be caught this bare anywhere - it has been -30 degrees here for the past 3 days.  I think I will become a never-nude. This was done in watered-down acrylic.  Actual water colours scare me; mistakes can't be as easily fixed.  That deep rooted fear can be attributed to grade 7 art class and an attempt to imitate a Group of Seven painting in water colour.  It became a not-so-Group-of-Seven-painting and a rather big mess.  Rest assured I will conquer this fear.  One day.

house blend.

Who knew whipping paint at a piece of illustration board could be so much fun?  Featured below is an imitation of Jackson Pollock's abstract impressionism style.  I'm posting old works to keep this blog at bay while I finish new projects!  This piece reminds me of coffee, mmm.

Parallel.

I'm not quite sure why, but every time I do a portrait that is not of me bits and pieces of myself unintentionally find their way into the facial features.  My old art teacher always called this my 'self portrait,' so here you go!  This was done when I had longer hair - I miss it sometimes.  Trust that the colours are more vibrant in real life, and there is a sheen from natural light in the top left that I couldn't avoid.

my roots are strong and deep.

Lately I've been filling my mornings with 3 hour painting sessions.  I've made a goal for myself to cover every blank canvas I have hiding under my bed with water colours, acrylic and oil paint, string, paper - basically anything I can get my hands on!  I'm poor, and paint is expensive.  Here is a preview of a 3 panel canvas project I've been working on for the past week:

Inspiration.

Je T'aime John Wayne Gacy Jr.

This piece was inspired by John Wayne Gacy for an art show last Spring.  Call me crazy, but I think serial killers are some of the most intelligent people on the planet.

Tick-tock.

Time flies!  I have so much to do and so little time to do it.  Deadlines for school are fast approaching and my portfolio is not nearly as complete as I imagined it would be by now.  Working two jobs is definitely a huge time suck.  I think I might just turn into a night owl.

Bonsoir.

Hello new chapter of life, blog-edition!  Nice to meet you.
I started a blog last year.  That blog is now a ghostly memory covered in cyberspace cobwebs.  Hopefully this time round will prove to be more promising.

I will mainly use this to serve the purpose of posting artwork, both in-progress and finished.  Cheers.
